Mashariki Jazz & Folk Music Festival
We are pleased to announce the online launch of the first East African Artist-initiated and driven Jazz and Folk Music festival, Mashariki Jazz and Folk Music Festival!
Organized by Eyecuemedia Events and Kendwa Rocks Hotel, Zanzibar, the event will take place on September 19th, 2020, at Kendwa Rocks Hotel by the beach.
Famous for it’s monthly Full Moon Parties, Kendwa Rocks Hotel is no stranger to concerts, parties or crowds. In order to launch the event, John Kagaruki of Eyecuemedia discussed the mode and purpose of the event with the participating groups and came to the conclusion that many East African artists in these two genre’s of music were being either overlooked by local festivals or did not have a platform that they could showcase their music and not feel they were just an addition to whatever else was going on.
Eventually artist Makadem from Kenya came on board with his fellow artists Mopao, Msafiri Zawose and Hassan Mahenge of Tarajazz to agree that this would be a unique opportunity to come together as East African artists and collaborate to start this off as the first edition of an annual event.
